Each piece is unique, no two are ever alike. All of Red Tail Glass Works pieces are made from sheets of glass, cut and shaped with a variety of techniques including the kiln. The artist is always striving to push the glass a little further, in it’s design while keeping it’s capability of still being functional.

Snowscape Necklace in Charcoal

Hello and thank you for stopping by! I am a 20-something metalsmith currently living in a stucco bungalow in Portland, OR. I prefer to spend my free time playing with our two dogs and messing about in the garden. I am continually thrilled by (in no particular order) little birds, growing our own food, the Pacific Northwest, native plants, cabochons, the love of my life and farmers markets.

Todays interview is about close friendship and a love of art and design, lets begin.....

DM: What is your artistic medium?
AI: Designing sterling silver mixed gold jewelry.

DM: Where can your art be seen?

AI: Our website  and we also have 4 etsy shops: artisanimpact.etsy.com and artisanlook.etsy.com for silver mixed gold designs. Artisanfield.etsy.com for gold filled designs and silvercrush.etsy.com for silver designs.

DM: When and how did you first become interested in your medium?
AI: We met why learning at art school, after we graduated we went to Europe and there we started to design our first creations from stones that we had found in nature.

DM: Once you decided to pursue your art, how did you start off, trial and error, books, classes, videos, formal schooling?

AI: We were both 26 years old, we returned from Spain to Israel and opened a small studio, near Tel Aviv, this was the start of our first filigree collection. Our work was based on the knowledge that we had from our work in Spain and Amsterdam, it turned out our first collection was a huge success.

DM: Out of what you tried, was there any particular thing that you would recommend to someone just starting out?
AI: The most important is to believe in your talent and abilities. create new collections often and invest time in marketing.

DM: What do you enjoy most about working with your medium?
AI: It feels great that people love and buy our designs. For every artist creation is something that is connected to his pain, happiness, adventures...when people connect to our work in a certain way they connect to us.

DM: What do you find the most frustrating?
AI: We try not to get frustrated... but there have been times when we have invested our time and create a full new collection then get the feeling that it's just not it!

DM: Where do you find your inspirations for what you create?
AI: We are inspired from old Yemeni designs, nature, fairy tales, weather....many things. most of them simple.

DM: Tell us a little about one of your favorite creations:
AI: The meditation rings collection has a huge success. These sterling silver spinner rings draw their inspiration from the ancient Tibetan prayer wheels.

The outer bands are free to spin around the inner band. The meditation ring gives a calming effect while using the thumb to spin.
Meditation rings are also known as Prayer rings and motion rings.
DM: Have you ever experienced artist block and how did you overcome it?
AI: Not really. (DM: Lucky them !)

DM: When is your favorite time to create?
AI: At night we usually think or plan the new designs, maybe draw a sketch...but we create at regular working hours in the studio.

DM: What advise would you give someone starting out in this medium?
AI: Go for it.

DM: Tell us a bit about yourself.
AI: This is a story about close friendship and a love of art and design. It begins when we met at the age of 14 in the arts high school where we both studied sculpture, ceramics, drawing and design.

At the age of 21 we packed our bags and traveled together through Europe. We started in colorful Amsterdam, where we used to sell paintings in the streets. Passers by who saw the charming drawings were touched and bought them. After a while we moved to Spain, where in a majestic valley we built a ceramics studio in nature. We built the primitive stoves from wood and from an old washing machine. We created our first jewels from local stones that we found in nature. People loved our work, and we started selling to art galleries in Europe. Today, we spend all the time we can at our studio and enjoy every minute of it.

We dedicate ourselves to our creativity and skills. We have developed techniques that resonate powerfully through our contemporary jewelry designs, with the craftsmanship and detail of old Yemeni and Middle Eastern cultures, creating a distinct look for each piece of jewelry. By working with sterling silver, gold and gemstones we create an unconventional mixture of contemporary and ethnic designs. The use of intricate filigree work in our designs demonstrates the impact of different cultures of our work.

Our designs the Oded & Ilan Collection were displayed for many years in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. We are presenting in the most important jewelry shows in the world and sell in Australia, the Middle East, Japan, the USA, Canada and elsewhere. In order to learn more about us you may look at the press link.

Two years ago we opened a marketing office in Montréal, Canada with our third partner Ev. We love the idea of selling directly to art lovers and people that like our work from all over the world.

Thank you so much for a look into your creativity endevors, I have really enjoyed learning more about your art. Best wishes to you in 2010 !

Till tomorrow, keep creating !
